Today is National Tortilla Chip Day.

Monday was Be Humble Day.

And Tuesday was International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day
(Rhett thanks you for honoring this day).

But I am not going to talk about any of those worthy holidays, because this Friday, February 26, is (drum roll please)

Tell a Fairy Tale Day!

Fairy tales are endlessly engaging, because the traditional versions are so timeless, and because there are so many ways for a fresh take on the old favorites.

The Broadway musical Wicked is a great example for adults, and for the very young, a couple of my favorites are The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig, and The Paper Bag Princess.

The other wonderful feature of a good fairy tale is this: however many trials and tribulations the characters endure, everything works out in the end.

Realistic? Maybe not, but perhaps just what’s needed to keep hope afloat in these tough times.

So go on, #ReadABook, I double-dog dare you!

And while you’re at it, make it a fairy tale where
“they all live happily ever after.”
